THE HUMAN SIDE OF CAPABILITY

Understand
the friction.
See the possibilities.

Life and work ask different things of each of us. Understanding those demands is a place to start.

WHY ADAPTABILITY?

People are different.
The way we approach
tasks can be, too.

AdaptAbility helps people understand where activities and work become difficult, and explore practical ways to approach them differently.

It brings structure to reflection, helping turn a hard-to-explain difficulty into something you can look at, talk about and work through.

MEET TASK FRICTION

Sometimes, the difficulty
is in the fit.

A task. An environment. A way of working.
They don’t always fit the person doing them.

We call it task friction: the moments when something becomes harder, slower or more draining than it needs to be.

AdaptAbility is a guided exploration platform. It helps you look at the task, the demands around it and the changes worth exploring. You bring your experience. Structured reflection helps you make sense of it.

TWO WAYS IN. ONE HUMAN FOCUS.

For the life you live.
And the work you do.

Different situations. The same starting point:
understanding what makes something difficult.

01 / PERSONAL EXPLORATION

HOW IT WORKS

Your experience.
Your words. Your way forward.

There’s no perfect answer to find.
The questions help you explain what matters to you.

  1. 01 / YOUR STARTING POINT

    Bring a real difficulty

An everyday task, a work situation or an activity you’d like to approach differently. Start with what is getting in your way.

  2. 02 / OPEN ADAPTABILITY

    Start your exploration

Open the app and begin with the situation you want to explore. You don’t need to have it all worked out first.

  3. 03 / MAKE IT SPECIFIC TO YOU

The options are a starting point.
    Your own words matter.

As you work through the questions, choose an option that fits or use the free-text box to explain your answer. You don’t have to squeeze your experience into a generic option.

    IF AN OPTION FITS
    ABCD

    Choose the relevant answer

Use the lettered options when they describe your situation.

IF THE OPTIONS FEEL TOO GENERIC

Write it in your own words

Use free text. Tell the exploration what you already know, what you’re trying to do and exactly where it becomes difficult.

    For example, you could write:
“I have a brachial plexus injury and can’t use my right hand. Preparing meals is difficult, especially holding food steady while I cut it.”

A condition or injury can be useful context. Explaining its effect on the task makes your answer more specific. You don’t need a diagnosis or a label to use AdaptAbility.

You can use an option for one question and your own words for the next. If an answer doesn’t fit, explain what does.

  4. 04 / BRING IT TOGETHER

    Get your summary report

At the end of the exploration, your summary report brings the discussion together. Read it through and use it as a starting point for reflecting on practical next steps or having a conversation about support.

A summary of your exploration—not a medical assessment or diagnosis.

WHY ADAPTABILITY EXISTS

Built from lived experience.
Driven by possibility.

Founder Stuart Baldock knows what it means to find a different way of doing things. Living with a brachial plexus injury, alongside his work as a planning engineer, helped shape the idea behind AdaptAbility.

That experience informs a simple starting point: understand the person, look closely at the task, and explore what could change.
